Designing a space is all about balance of functionality meets aesthetics, but the endless choices can feel overwhelming.

Are you looking for a simple yet stylish way to enhance comfort and design? A ceiling fan with integrated lighting does it all. This two-in-one fixture delivers cooling airflow, ambient lighting, and energy efficiency in one sleek package.

Whether you're upgrading your home or starting fresh, here’s why a ceiling fan with lights could be the perfect finishing touch.

Cost Effective and Energy Efficient

One of the primary benefits of a ceiling fan with lights is the ability to get two jobs done with a single fixture. While these integrated units typically come at a higher price point than standard fans, you can save by not purchasing separate lighting.

Modern fans are also exceptionally energy efficient. For maximum energy and cost savings, look for fans with LED bulbs that:

  • Consume up to 80% less power than traditional incandescent bulbs
  • Last for 50,000 operating hours, three times longer than compact fluorescents
  • Help keep your power bill down over time

Consistent Design Language

A ceiling fan with lights creates a sleek, streamlined look – perfect for modern Kiwi homes. Premium ceiling fans like the Haiku range from Big Ass Fans create a unified design element, looking more like an elegant lighting feature than a basic cooling solution.

Integrated lighting also eliminates the strobing effect you may experience when a fans blades interact with closely installed ceiling lights.

If you lean more towards an eclectic or traditional interior style, a ceiling fan with integrated lighting may limit your styling options - you might need to forgo that funky chandelier you’ve been drooling over. However, you don’t have to sacrifice statement lighting for convenience's sake. Consider complementing your ceiling fan with lamps or decorative wall sconces to maintain both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Installation

Ceiling fans with lights require a robust electrical setup to support both the fan motor and lighting fixture. However, even standard fan installations need appropriate ceiling support and electrical connections. We recommend that all fan installs are carried out by a registered electrician.

Jet Black Fan Systems Residential fan range can be equipped with an optional LED up-light or down-light. The up-light requires a Universal Mount, and we recommend ordering it with your fan for straightforward installation. While an up-light can be added later, this requires partially dismantling the fan and you will need expert help. The down-light can be installed with your fan or added later for extra illumination. It is as simple as unscrewing the lower cover trim and replacing it with the light kit, following the installation guide.

To avoid any nasty shocks, disconnect power to the fan location before installing a light kit.

Smart Home Integration

Ever wished you could clap your hands to turn the lights off before bed? Well, with modern smart home systems that's almost a reality for savvy homeowners. Smart home compatible fans can:

  • Integrate seamlessly with voice control assistants such as Amazon Alexa and Google Home for enhanced convenience - just say, “Hey Alexa, turn on the fan!”.
  • Connect to your home Wi-Fi for app or remote control, allowing comprehensive control over lighting brightness and colour temperature alongside fan controls.
  • Offer advanced lighting options - A Haiku downlight kit offers 16 dimmable settings and adjustable colour temperature, while a Haiku uplight kit comes with Chromatic RGB LED options, allowing for dynamic colour changing.

Integrated lighting makes sense for many homes, just remember to consider your personal style and budget, trust the installation to a registered electrician and when in doubt – speak to one of our experts by calling 09 217 6801 or emailing customerservice@jetblackfans.co.nz
